LONGING FOR CONNECTION / YEARNING TO A MISSING PERSON: A CRAIGSLIST ZINE
OBJECTIVE:to create a zine using “web scraping” tools and code.
OUTCOME: a zine of compiled headlines from Craigslist’s “Lost & Found” community page. When browsing the page I was struck by the importance and emotional connections people feel towards innanimate objects. To emphasize that I used grepping techniques in terminal code to download pages of headlines as .txt files and replaced the words “Lost” with “Longing” and “Found” with “Yearning to”. The layout and design of the zine was inspired by the brutalist web design of the site.
